Horizontal Drains

Horizontal drains are used to lower the groundwater levels in a hillside for the control and prevention of landslides.

We have been installing drains for hillside stabilization since 1999

The horizontal drains we have installed follow the following

basic Cal Trans specifications:


  • Drill 3.25” hole diameter with water rotary drill rig
  • Install 1.5” Sch 80, PVC, flush-threaded pipe and screen
  • Seal at surface
  • Hookup to drainage system to transport water away from hillside

Equipment Description


Case 6030 Horizontal Track Drill Rig

Heavy duty rig for drilling up to 400’ into hillside. Water rotary with drill rods and tri-cone bit. This rig requires a semi-flat area 16’ x 16’ ( can be dug by backhoe) next to hillside to facilitate drilling horizontally.

All Terrain

Morooka Support Vehicle

All-terrain, rubber tracks.
It can go where our support trucks cannot go.

It has a hydraulic dump bed and is capable of moving pallets of materials, augers, rods, water tank, generator and other equipment.
